His free youth Capoeira program has been in existence for more than ten years and has become an important part of the Mission and Oakland communities.
Mestre Aceituno's artistic background encompasses various forms of music, movement and dance study: Afro-Brazilian, Latin, Jazz, modern, and African. He studied dance at San Francisco State University, capoeira under Mestre Preguiça, and music at the San Francisco Conservatory, as well as close study under Master Percussionist Jorge Alabe.
Mestre Aceituno's knowledge of Capoeira and Brazilian culture has broadened through his 23-year commitment to the study of Afro-Brazilian percussion, folkloric dance and samba. In addition to teaching and training capoeira, Mestre Aceituno devotes his time to instruction and performance as an artistic director. In 1989, he formed the award winning Fogo Na Roupa, consisting of both a performing company and a Grupo Carnavalesco Cultural (Carnaval Group).
